Ball State's baseball group
tumbled to Coastal Carolina by a 7-6 edge in a 10-inning fight Sunday evening
at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C.
In the wake of falling behind
4-1, the Cardinals encouraged for four runs in the last three innings of
regulation with a Zach Plesac two run grand slam giving Ball State a 5-4 lead,
yet an immoderate mistake in the ninth permitted Coastal Carolina to tie the
diversion at 5-5.
After Coastal Carolina tied the
diversion at 5-5 in the base of the ninth, Alex Maloney's tenth inning infield
single up the center scored Call from third and gave Ball State a 6-5 lead.
Call had strolled to begin the inning and was moved to second on a reparation
hit from Rindfleisch. Kennedy grounded out to second and propelled Call to
third before he scored on the infield single.
In the base of the tenth, Coastal
Carolina put runners on first and second and tied the diversion with a solitary
to right field that scored the tying run on a nearby play at the plate on a
toss from Call to Rindfleisch.
The Chanticleers won on a twofold
to left focus field to score the diversion victor from third and moved Coastal
Carolina to the 7-6 triumph.
Beachfront Carolina scored four
runs on two outs in the base of the third before the Cardinals set up their
first score of the diversion in the fourth when Alex Call scored on an infield
single via Sean Kennedy.
Down 4-1 heading into the seventh
inning, Ball State scored two more races to close the hole to 4-3. With Elbert
Devarie at the plate and two outs, a wild pitch scored Plesac from third.
Devarie's twofold to right focus field scored Matt Eppers and the Cardinals
pulled inside one run at 4-3.
In the eighth inning, Jarett
Rindfleisch strolled and progressed to second on an Alex Maloney ground out
before Plesac's first vocation HR went over the divider in left focus field
over the 400-foot marker and put the Cardinals ahead 5-4.
Plesac was 1-for-3 on the day
with two runs-batted-in and two runs scored, while Maloney was 2-for-5 with one
RBI.
Brendan Burns began the diversion
on the hill for the Cardinals and pitched 4.0 innings, permitting four earned
runs and striking out two. Devin Wilburn went ahead in help for two center
innings and permitted no hits or runs before B.J. Steward completed the last
3.2 innings to endure the misfortune and tumble to 1-1 on the season.
Ball State will proceed with its
Spring Break trip with a Tuesday diversion versus Maine in Port Charlotte,
